William G. McCormick

William G. McCormick is the founder and Managing Shareholder of McCormick Law, with offices located in Fort Lauderdale New York and Nashville.  He concentrates his practice in the areas of complex commercial, corporate, construction, land use and real property litigation, as well as local government and administrative law.  With more than 25 years of litigation experience, he has been involved in a wide range of matters, including contract disputes, condominium-related litigation, construction defect and delay claims, commercial foreclosure, tort actions, administrative proceedings, partnership disputes and landlord-tenant matters, among many others.  

In addition, a significant portion of William’s practice is concentrated on representing national, regional and local billboard owners and operators in a broad range of litigation, contract, permitting, administrative and regulatory matters.  William is a member of both the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association and the Outdoor Advertising Association of America.  In more than 25 years representing clients in the outdoor advertising industry, William has gained significant experience with, knowledge of and insight into local, state and national laws regulating the outdoor advertising industry.  He has drafted or participated in the drafting of several municipal ordinances related to off-site advertising.

William is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the US News – Best Lawyers in America publication each year since 2016.

Representative Experience

  • Secured a defense verdict and prevailing-party attorney’s fees, following a five-day jury trial in a premises liability action, filed by former tenants against their former landlord (client), alleging personal injuries and loss of personal property as a result of “toxic mold” infestation of the rental property.
  • Obtained temporary injunction on behalf of national cable provider, enjoining attempted termination of bulk services contracts by three condominium associations both “for cause” and pursuant to unit-owner vote.
  • Successfully represented an international cargo shipping company in an administrative challenge to application by neighboring mega-yacht repair facility for issuance of dock permits.
  • Obtained a summary judgement and attorneys’ fees award for defendant in $2.5 million tortious interference action brought by attorney alleging that defendant had caused attorney’s discharge in contingency fee case where former client obtained a multimillion-dollar verdict.
  • Obtained variance for two shopping center owners in Hillsborough County, allowing owners to maintain existing on-site signage well in excess of signage presently permitted by code. Only two variances approved out of more than 150 applicants filed with the county.
  • Successfully negotiated an agreement with Palm Beach County municipality for the erection and maintenance of billboards on city-owned property by a major outdoor advertising company, which included drafting a new sign ordinance for adoption by the city commission.
  • Successfully represented one of the nation’s largest outdoor advertising companies in numerous code enforcement actions throughout the state.
  • Successfully represented American Kennel Club judge in defamation action, involving defamatory statements made through an internet chat forum.
